Who loves to sit out on a patio to enjoy the sun?
Everyone, right? Yes! So, I’m making a patio. It is worth the effort of hauling gravel, sand, cobble stone, and pavers to create a space to sit out enjoy the sun, the gentle breeze, and a nice cup of coffee or tea.
Here is an aerial shot showing the completed patio; a criss-cross pattern with pavers and an outline with cobblerocks to create texture and highlight usable space.
For continuity, I repeated the stair-step of the retaining wall in the rounded corner with the pavers and cobblerock. This gives the eyes a focus point and creates movement;thereby, increasing interest and the feeling of openness.
There is a walkway joining the backyard with the front driveway. The path is shaded on one side by ferns and the tan wall of the house of the other. A triail of cobblestone borders each side to give balance and added color to the neutral landscape. The walkway also serves for storage of garbage and recycle bins.
